Download.com: How to read RSS feeds
Good overview on how to get started using RSS feeds.

What is an RSS feed?

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. RSS is somewhat like an e-mail newsletter in that you get an alert when arktimes.com posts new weblog or news content. However, you do not use an e-mail program to read an RSS feed! RSS feeds are handled by different software called a 'RSS Reader.'

Where Do I get a RSS Reader?

There are two types of readers, browser based (you read through a browser) or desktop programs. Some are free, some you have to pay for.

Browser Based

  1. Newsgator Online
  2. Bloglines
  3. Lektora

Desktop Based

  1. Feed Reader (Windows)
  2. FeedDemon (Windows)
  3. NetNewsWire (Macintosh OSX)
  4. RSS Menu (Macintosh OSX)
  5. MiNews (Macintosh OSX)

How do I subscribe to the Arktimes.com RSS feeds?

It's really easy to subscribe to Arktimes.com RSS feeds. Follow these steps:

  1. Pick a News Reader: Just like you need a browser to view a web site, you need a News Reader to view RSS feeds. Check the suggestions in the right column titled "Readers". The quickest way for you to get set up is to use a "Browser Based" News Aggregator because you will not need to download and install software. A "Browser Based" News Aggregator is your only option if you do not have installation privileges on your computer!
  2. Copy the RSS Feed link: Pick the arktimes.com RSS feed you wish to subscribe to and right mouse click on the orange box to copy the link location (or 'Shortcut') for the feed.
  3. Subscribe: Go to your News Reader and follow instructions on how to subscribe to the arktimes.com RSS feed you have copied. Most News Readers ask you to simply paste the RSS feed location into a form and the program does the rest for you!
